Excellent thread. Downgraded. Solved my problem. Thanks!
I'd like to hear from someone who successfully reverted to 7.6.1. I've tried all the suggestions, but no luck. None of the links to 7.6.1 seem to work. How did you do it? Details...
I reverted back to 7.6.1 by going into AirPort Utility (v6.2) select your device, while hovering over the version number, hold down the option key and click. Then select the version you wish to install.
Fire up Airport Utility, click the Airport you want to downgrade, find the firmware version, over over it, hold down the ______ key (I think it's 'option' but I'm not sure) and click the version number and there will be a pulldown for the various ones. Select which one you want.
I accidentally updated the firmware on an Airport Express to 7.6.3 and nothing seems have gone wrong but to be safe I downgraded to 7.6.1 right away.
More proof that it never pays to update firmware or any software unless you yourself have noticed a bug that needs correction or a feature you can't refuse!
If you have an iPad or iPhone download the airport utility for it and use that to easily down grade to 7.6.1. I've used Mac, PC and iPad to do this and iPad was the easiest.
I have AirPort Utility 5.6.1, and hovering etc doesn’t work (nor does anything else I try). I can’t upgrade the Utility because I am using OS 10.6.8. Any suggestions?
Also try this:
Archive file locations for Mac and Pc
AirPort Utility keeps an archive of all Wi-Fi Base Station firmware updates you install, and stores them in the location below.
OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/Apple/AirPort/Firmware
Windows: ~/AppData/Local/Apple/AirPort/Firmware
Can be read here:
I found the archive, but what do I do with it?
Download the airport utility app for the iPhone. Run it. Select your device the the select the version an Ethernet olde everyone's and pick 7.6.1. And upload. Few minutes you are done.
Select the current version then select older versions then pick the 7.6.1...... I think I typed the rest of it correctly .......cheers
Copy the archive file to a easy to get to location on your device then upload it using the PC or MAC based utility. That said it will still be easier to use the iPhone app.
I figured out how to succesfully revert to 7.6.1 using my AirPort Utility 5.6.1. So my Utility says that I have version 7.6.1. However, the AirPort device has not been changed to 7.6.1. So now that I have 7.6.1 on my computer, how do I get the AirPort changed?
John I'm not sure i understand what you are seeing . Just to make sure your have the correct version 7.6.1 back on your Airport device would you install the airport utility app on you iPhone and do the restore from there? It will be much, much easier from that App then if you want you can double check it from the utility on you Mac/PC at that time again.
