I can't capture. I can't figure it out! I have not changed any software or hardware. But I am gettting this error: Codec not found. Might be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.
In the capture pane, I have no video, but it does show the audio levels registering.

What device are you connecting to? How is it connected?
Are you capturing from a device you have successfully captured from before?

Yes, everthing has been working. I'm trying from a Canopus converter and from my camera seperately.
800 Firewire
Which model Canopus? Are you using an adaptor cable from FW 800 to FW 400?
Have you done any recent software installs or software updates involving the OS or media handling applications?

ADVC 100. No adaptor cable. I did a clean install a few months ago, but I have been capturing since then.
Given your report, I don't have any direct suggestions to solve this other than suggesting the usual suspects:
Use disk utility to fix disk permissions on your System DIsk
Download Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion (fee) and trash your FCE preferences.

Thank you! That worked! All I did was trash the preferences in the Library/Final Cut.
But The Preference Mgr did not work on my system. I'll have to look for something else in place of that application.
It seems to be all back to normal. I really appreciate your help!!!

Glad that worked, did you download the version for your OS (which you have listed as 10.4)?

FCE should be set in the East Setup to the DV Converter option when usi f a non-controllable device like the Canopus.
