cannot copy/paste in a table in numbers

Perhaps you have a Locked table there.

I've been facing the same issue! I can't copy any table nor any cell from a single Numbers file! Doesn't matter what part of this file or wherever I want to copy into, it simply doesnt work!

This file is NOT LOCKED!

The only "new procedure" I've performed has been to send it to be edited in my iPad. I'm not sure, but maybe sharing this file with iPad has damaged it. I wish I find out later that I'm wrong, but right now I wish I hadn't shared this file with iPad.

I guess I'd better export my file to MS Excel and continue my work there from now on.

Anyway, I'd be glad to understand what happened and to learn how to fix it!

Since the writer of the original question never returned, one assumption would be that we solved his/her problem.

Notice that I did not suggest that the file was locked, only the table.

How can a table witin a file be locked? I can't find any related command in the menu.

By "locked" I understood locked file.

you lock a table by selecting the table, then using the key combination <COMMAND> + L or the menu item "Arrange > Lock"

A locked table, or any other "object", can be identified by little "x"s in the corners. Arrange > Unlock will turn these figures into normal sizing handles. See Locking and Unlocking Objects in Chapter 9 of the Numbers User Guide. You can download the guide from the Help menu.

I found it (⌘L). In my table only ⌘L is available, ⌥⌘L isn't. It means that it hasn't been locked.

We're back to stage 1. It seems that this file has somehow been corrupted. I can't figure out how!

My only suspicion regards the file exchanging between Mac OS and iOS.

Tarcisio, can you help us? Have you also transfered your Numbers file to iOS and then cought it back to Mac OS?

I can tell you, because it has happened to me, that it is easy to accidently lock a table in the iOS version with a slip of the finger.

In fact I'm afraid I don't domain the gesture for iWork in iOS. I'm not able to create tables and to do advanced tasks yet. That's why I use to prepare them in Mac OS and transfer to iOS to have them available in the field. Back to the office, I return them to Mac OS to process data.

Anyway, I think that any commands in Numbers for iOS should have its equivalent in Numbers for Mac OS and vice-versa. If it has been locked in iOS, i should be able to unlock and re-lock it in Mac OS. Doesn't it sound reasonable?

Would it be suitable for an issue feedback?

No, there is nothing reportable with the controls for locking and unlocking tables across iCloud. You can lock a table in the Mac environment and unlock it in the iOS environment, and you can lock a table in the iOS environment and unlock it in the Mac environment. There is nothing broken there, nothing to be fixed.

I have the same problem. Making a copy of the file in Mac helps. Seems to be problem between iCloud and Mac...

I have the same problem. I can't copy/paste cell contents, nor copy/paste a style from one cell to another. It is only this file, no problem with other files.

Interesting fact to note is it was originally a Microsoft Excell file, that was opened in Numbers, and I created a new work sheet. But it was saved as a numbers file now.

I tried creating a new file and copy/pasting my table there, but even though in that file I can copy/paste cell contents and styles, it doesn't allow me to paste the table from the other file.

Solved my issue: I have a copy of Excell for Mac, I saved the numbers file in .xls, opened it in Microsoft Excell, saved it again in .xlsx format and opened it again in Numbers. Now I can copy/paste again.
