Does anyone know how to help? My emails have suddenly started to appear as "read" (by taking off the bold) as soon as I put my cursor on the email. I don't click into the email, just have my cursor on it, and it suddenly takes the bold off. It just happened, and I can't figure out why. Really confusing as I'm starting to miss emails - as it looks at a glance like I've read them

In mail, you can go to format and select a color that would should show the messsage was read. Select a message read it then click the color for read. Is this what you are looking to do? Or am I off base? All the best I sent it before i attached the shot.
If you want to just click a read/unreadread mark, just click command U, it will go back and forth leave the blue dot.
Ideally I would like to highlite a message so I can have a quick look / preview at it's contents and not have to remark it as unread (ie stop the blue dot from disappearing)
Maybe you mean trackpad, systems preferences>trackpad>point and click. or one of the other tabs, click or inclick to set the preference you want.
then just click shift,command,U will make it look unread.
Although your instruction may solve the issue manually, the ideal solution would include the MarkAsReadDelay function that has been removed in version 7.1.
Truepreview was based on this functionality, and now there appears to be no other option but to leave the mailclient for enother client.
