Moving itunes to new mac using an external drive hasn't worked?

I have used an external drive and followed all the steps to copy itunes from old mac to new mac. I can see the folder and music etc on my new mac but its not showing anything in iTunes. Any ideas?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Make sure itunes on the new computer is not running. Move your iTunes folder from the old Mac into the new mac's music folder. If there is an existing iTunes library, rename it first. After the folder is in place, hold option on you keyboard and click the iTunes icon on your dock. The choose library window will open. Select the iTunes folder from your old Mac. which is in the new mac 's music folder.

I used the Option key whilst opening itunes and have managed to link the itunes folder in. Most of my tunes have now gone into itunes however I am missing 206 tunes and all my playlists. I followed this which showed how to Locate and consolidate http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

so I would have thought everything would have copied through as I followed this step.

Any idea is I need to select anything else to make my playlists and missing tunes appear ?

I can possibly copy my playlist from my ipod but it would take me ages to find out which tunes are missing.

Thanks for your help.

I started from scratch, deleted the folder from external hard drive and repeated all the steps again to copy it. Possibly I had only selcted itunes music folder rather than the main complete itunes folder. Anyway everything has now copied over, playlists, ratings, podcast etc etc, no missing tunes all running fine.

I just hope that doing it all twice won't cause ny problems later on as now I have the original itunes folder that was incomplete in my trash and the new itunes folder in the music folder (there wasn't a long wait whilst it linked). I will find out when I empty the trash I guess.
