iMac 27 i7 spontaneously shutting down after RAM upgrade

Hello all,

I have upgraded my late 2012 (new) iMac 27 i7 from 8GB RAM to 32GB from Crucial.

After that the iMac is randomly shutting down, specially after a long period of time on idle.

are there any kind of settings to check/proof that this is a memory issue? Crucial is a well established vendor and I never had problems before.

Is Apple restricting RAM types now?

any assistance is appreciated,

Thanks,

Kerb,

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Have you checked the various modules (use only two/use the other two/use two new with two OEM/ etc)? It could be one not correctly seated or one bad module.

Also, just to add to the confusion, I'm going to link to one of the many lengthy threads from 2010; the problem at the time was that the Macs worked either with the full complement of OEM RAM, or a reduced amount of third party RAM, but there were problems with a full complement of third party RAM. No idea if there could be a similar problem here, but thought I'd call it to your attention.
