Highpoint Rocket RAID 2322 SAS card - drives turning off

Hi There,

We have a Mac Pro 1,1 with:
- Highpoint Rocket RAID 2322 SAS card
- Stardom ST8 with 8x 1gb drives

We're trying to trace a fault where after each restart:
- A different drive is offline
- Often it's the same two drives that are offline
- But it's random enough to know that the issue isn't the drives

So far we've:

- Moved the RAID card to different PCI slots
- Replaced two of the drives

We're going to:
- Replace the SAS cables
- Check the PCI bus of the Mac Pro

But we're unsure how best to check or troubleshoot the PCI bus - does anyone know how to do this?

Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Ben

There used to be jumpers on some SCSI drives that told the drive to multiply its ID number by 1 or 2 seconds and delay that long before spinning up. It was useful when a whole rack was going to be powering up at once and the current draw would dim the lights or cause fuses to blow.

I wonder if you are seeing that sort of effect -- where all drives are trying to spin up at once overwhelms the power supply and some don't spin up or don't wake up properly.

Thanks for the reply - details are:
- Mac OSX Server 10.6.8
- Parallel SCSI Domain 1
- HPT
- DISK 1_2
- Revision 4.00

The info above I got from System Profiler becauase I can't find any firmware/version info in the RAID mangement console - just a reference to: HighPoint Web RAID Managament 1.6.7.

I'm not sure about the firmware of the actual drives as all I can see in System Profiler are the Volumes - not individual disk information.
