New iMac fans running while shut down

New iMac for Christmas 21 inch 3.1ghz 8 gb ram. Fusion Drive.

The day I installed it, it would go to sleep and not wake back up. Holding the power button would not make it shut down or wake up. Had to pull the power cord. It only did this twice so I hoped it was a fluke or some program locking it up. Normally holding the power button for 6-10 seconds works in that case.

It continued to do this occasionally for the next 2 weeks.

Then it stopped doing that and now the fans run full blast while the iMac is sleeping or shut down. Blows my mind.

So I reset the SMC and P-RAM. Still nothing.

Looks like I am going to have to take it to the Apple store. Googleing shows no other reports of the fans doing this. I see reports of running while sleeping but none others of running while off.

If I unplug it from the wall the fans of course go off. They start back up as soon as I plug it back in. have left it unplugged for hours and they just start up again as soon as it's plugged in.

Any ideas?
