How do I bring together two sequences with different time frames?

My question is specific but hopefully will clear my understanding of how to deal with multiple frame rates in the one project...

I am tidying up a project which has separate sequences with different time frames:

frame size: 5184 by 3456 at 24 fps

and

frame size 1920 by 1080 at 25 fps

I want to bring the first sequence (24 fps) into the second one but keep getting a message telling me that I can't combine the two.

How can I do this?

I use final cut 7

Thanks,

Rhiannon

If you don't mind either slightliy slowing up or slightly speeding up one of the sequences, export a selfcontained qt of one of the sequences with current settings (depending on the codec or compressor) and open in cinematools and conform to the other frame rate. Absolutely lossless except for the speed change as you're only changing the metadata which determines the playback frame rate.

I find compressor does a much better job of scaling than fcp but you need to customize your preset by enabling frame controls and setting the resizing filter to "best."

Wait a second. Are you actually editing 5184 by 3456? Does that work?
