Cannot install p/shop elements 11 ? incompatible disc

All attempts to install photoshop elements 11 fail. error (-1). This is said to mean incompatibility due to HSFX files being case sensitive. S/ware downloads OK on my wife's laptop but she doesn't want it on her machine! Is there a way round this? Adobe are less than helpful. Comp is an imac, snow leopard,OSX 10-8-2. Disc repaired and permissions successfully. Cleaned regularly. Internet downloads updates etc. Have I wasted my money?

Check your drive's format. Highlight the drive you're trying to install to and press Command+I, or choose Get Info from the main menu. Under Format:, if it says Mac OS Extended (Case-Sensitive, Journaled), that's the problem.

Very few people have reason to use a case sensitive file system. The Adobe apps will not install on any such drive. In order to fix it, you need back up the drive, erase it as non case sensitive and reinstall the OS. I'm not sure if you can do a restore of the backup without the file system being changed back to case sensitive.

Thanks so much. It is as I feared. I'll try to sell the S/ware onto someone with windows or a different os.

You'd be much better off reformatting the drive as non case sensitive. Adobe's apps aren't the only software that balks at such a system. If you have no real need (and those are VERY few) to use a case sensitive system, you should change it.
