Feb 8, 2013 9:09 AM in response to apple muncherby mende1,It's a common problem. First, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4236?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If it doesn't work, open App Store > Featured > Account (under Quick Links) > Show hidden purchases, and show all your apps, so you will be able to update the applications that came with your computer (iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand)

Feb 24, 2013 4:20 AM in response to apple muncherby Paul_31,Just a thought - when you bought the Mac was it new or second hand?
I don't think that the number of dots indicated in the password window is an indicator of the actual amount of letters in your password. Certainly isn't with mine.

Feb 24, 2013 4:23 AM in response to apple muncherby mende1,It has nothing to do with your problem. If, as Paul said, you bought a second-hand Mac, you can't download them, and the only solution to update them is to delete all of the applications you want to update, buy iLife '11 in a DVD in Amazon and install it.
Apple introduced this system with OS X Lion because iLife apps were included in a DVD with the Mac in the past, but now, they are only available from the App Store. There are a lot of complains about that because you have to purchase again the apps, and in a DVD
