Battery is running hot and not holding charge after update

After a recent update to the system, my battery is not holding a charge and is running hot. I'm worried that this will cause other problems within the system. Has anyone else experienced similar problems? Can I get rid of the recent update? Is there a solution?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Hi. When running into power issues, your best course of action is to reset the SMC and NVRAM:

Let us know whether this resolves the problem for you. If not, you may wish to have the battery checked by an authorised repair centre. An overheating battery may indicate a failure in-progress.
