Safari-Flash-Adobe Woes

Is this a mystery? A big problem? A little probem?

My copy of Safari - 6.0.2 - has suddenly started to display a 'plug in blocked' message wherever there is a Flash Vid to be played.

When I download the 'latest Flash' from Adboe the file will not open ( a *.html' file)

So in essence I cannot play Flash now, cannot download Flash now and have nary a clue what is going on.

I have tried dl'ing the Adobe Flash link that pops up when I click on the 'blocked plugin' bit and directy from the Adobe webiste, The files play fine on Firefox on the Pro Tower and on both Safari and FF on an MBA and an iPad (via third party Flash software).

Any clues on how to solve this one would be very much appreciated

Thanks Dominic but that is exactly where my problem starts. That file downloads somehting that will not open. I have tried right clicking and the dl file does nothing. Left click gives me a black window that does nothing.

Same with the Adobe website.

Any other thoughts?

A bit of clarification. when I click on the Download Button at Adobe, the screen shoes me their dl page for about 1/10 of a second and then goes black. When I do the right click, the file that is dl'd displays 'cannot find this file' when I click on it

Here is what I did.

System Preferences > Adobe > Advanced

"Allow Adobe to install update" selected

Clicked the "Check Now" button.

After following all prompts and installing the update the following appeared in the same page next to the button.

"Plug-in version 11.5.502.149 is installed"

Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.

Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.

The Adobe Flash patch can be found on the company's website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent 11.5.502.149 version.
