I keep hearing ads

I keep hearing ads playing on my computer even with nothing is opened and I can't find the source anywhere all I can do is hear it. Is this a virus? How do I get rid of it? (I use chrome)

Also, a window will pop up with what looks like an ad video but nothing happens, it doesn't play or anything, and It will pop up at least 5 times in a row then disappear for 30 mins or less then do it all over again. I don't know if the two are related.

Also...... -_- there is another window that keeps popping up every 30 mins or so saying my mac need protection but it's coming from Chrome and the only button I can click is "ok", I can't exit or minimize, and when I click "ok" nothing happens, it just disappears then reappears 30 mins later.

HELP!!! 😟 I do school and work on my computer and this is driving me crazy and making my job and school very difficult.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Suggest you first try to figure out whether these nuisances are being caused by Chrome. You could use another browser, Safari or Firefox for example, and check if the problems continue. If Chrome is the cause, yu can uninstall Chrome:

Close all web browsers. Does the problem continue? If not, the problem was caused by a page that was loaded. Try to narrow down which page is causing the problem.

If it continues with all browsers closed, you probably have a web clipping open in the Dashboard that is causing the problem. Open your Dashboard and remove any web clipping widgets.

This is not caused by malware of any kind.
