You need to run Java 7 at this point, as Java 6 has been disabled due to security risks and there's no current version available that will run on 10.8.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any idea if a newer version will run on 10.8? If you do, do you know when it may be released?

There will not be any newer versions of Java 6.
It is now an obsolete product.
Is seems that the article (HT5559) has been updated (updated 19 feb 2013). However the second command is incorrect and java still cannot be re-enabled to java SE 6. Does anyone have any ideas?
Java 6 applets are dead. The most recent update removed Java 6 for applet purposes.
If you need it for Java applications (i.e. what's available when you do "java -version" from the command line), the most recent update brings that. But for applets, Java 6 is 6 feet under.

That's not true. If you already have Java SE 6 installed it will run Lion and Mountain Lion. The latest update was provided last Tuesday Java for OS X 2013-001.
The update disables the Java 6 applet plug-in, but does not destroy it. It can be re-enabled using Apple instructions: "Java for OS X 2013-001: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web Start functionality".
@eoever,
The instructions you cited has worked for many others, so I'm not certain why it isn't working for you. Did you previously have Java SE 6 installed and did you update it with 2013-001?

Technically, that's not true until Friday, when Oracle stops public support for it.
When I got my MacBook back from repairs, it seems it has been deleted. I have searched the web for java se 6, without results. I forgot to make a backup in the cloud, so it seems the apple supportdesk can't help me.

The second step or the third step which is the second command?
Copy and paste that part of the Terminal window along with the results and paste it back here.
Also take a look at /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/disabled/ and tell us what Java files are in each right now.

You mean Java SE 6 was deleted, probably because they reinstalled Lion?
I have heard some users claim they were able to restore it using Java for OS X Lion Update 1 and then running the latest update, but I don't know for certain that it will work.
Thanks! I will try it and get back to you.
Dear MadMacs0,
Thank you so much. You triggered me when you mentioned to check my Library. I checked and saw that there where two files 'disabled'. When I removed the disabled folder and re-entered the command lines, java SE 6 was re-installed and I am - once again - able to work again with my token!
Thank you so much!!
Best to you!
