I could loose all my data when updating my OS ?

I could loose all my data when updating my OS ? do I need to save everything before installing Snow Leopard?

MacBook (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.5.8), to install Snow Leopard

It is best to always have a backup no matter what but, not necessarily so. If you do not back up upgrading the os, the risk is on you.

Personally, I've never backed up while upgrading. I have nothing to lose that I cannot recover from the discs that came with my computer, the web or off burned dvds.
