Logic back up

Hello, I have been having problems with my computer and need to urgently clean the whole disk, otherwise it may crush and I could lose all of my software, including Ableton,Logic. I'd like to know, is it possible to back up the software somehow on to an external hard drive and after rebooting the computer, re-install it from that drive, without needing the original disk? I don't have access to it at the moment, as I'm traveling and all my stuff is in storage in another country.

Logic Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

I would use either Carbon Copy Cloner or my personal choice, SuperDuper! and make a complete clone image of your system drive onto an external storage device.

Then, once you have replaced your system drive, you can use the Cloned image to restore your system HD exactly as it was before without the loss of anything.

Ok, thank you very much for your help, i'm glad that i don't need original installation CD's. And one more question, i'm using snow leopard, but i also do not have instalattion Cd for that, what i will do about that? can i do the same?

Hi

Carbon Copy Cloner can make a complete bootable backup to another drive (including the OS).

You should be good to go (except that if there are any errors on your current system and installation, they will be copied over by CCCloner).
