Why won't my rented movie play in iTunes?

I downloaded a movie rental on iTunes and it appeared in my library. When I double-clicked the thumbnail to start the movie, the screen went black. The movie never started. When I went back to the iTunes store, I tried watching a clip or movie trailer. I was able to watch many trailers and clips, but no luck with getting my movie to play. Does anyone know why this happened and if I can "return" my rental and receive a refund? Thank you.😟
