How do you reset your password to download flash?

I am a new user of my MacBook Air. When I try to download Flash, it asks me for a password. I don't remember setting a password and the password that I use for my apple ID is not working. I have no idea how to reset it and I don't find the "help" (?) icon helpful - it tells me to click on the question mark to reset password but this only brings me into the same "help" instructions. Could somebody please take me though it step by step?

Many thanks

MacBook Air

You have to reset the password. If you are using Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Leopard, see "Resetting your original administrator account password" > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1274

If you are using OS X Lion or Mountain Lion (I'm sure that you are using Lion or Mountain Lion), see > http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4101

To install Adobe Flash or any other application you neeed to enter an administrator's name and password.

If you do not remember the original administrator name and password you can reset it.
