Open port 49152

Trying to share my sons itunes on my new MPB, I get an error message -3259 telling me to open port 49152 on one of the macs.

My first question is why, My sons itunes are available on every other mac on the network (4 macs) and my MBP can share itunes from all other macs on the network. So if it's port 49152 that needs opening on my MBP, why can I see other macs itunes, but not my sons, and if it's port 49152 that needs opening on my sons imac, why can everyone but my MBP share his itunes.

Finally, if I take a look at my firewall, I can choose to open TCP ports or UDP ports, now what's that all about or more specifically which should I choose.

iTunes should be communicating over TCP port 3689. When it is not communicating over this port because it can't (i.e. another user is sharing iTunes on the same computer in a different account), it will attempt to communicate over ports in the range 49152 - 65535 until it finds an open port.

Try entering in that port into the firewall. That could be the reason you're having issues seeing others and/or sharing with others on your local network.
