I don't have an accent. I will say play a song from "so and so" and she'll say "face time with John"? It doesn't make sense at all. Are there settings that maybe I need to change??

Siri doesnt understand anyone, complete waste of time !!
You may need to experiment with speaking more slowly or enunciating more clearly. Siri understands best if your accent (yes, we all have one) is closest to whatever the "standard" is for your country. In the U.S., think national network newscasters.
Siri understands me almost perfectly. Unusual names not in my contacts are my only problems. I make most of my phone calls through Siri, use speech-to-text for much of my text entry. My recent discovery is that you can ask Siri to calculate the tip on a restaurant check.
Siri also works very well for my housemate.
Just wanted to update this: Siri works for me now. It was not turned on. I should have done more research before posting but was having trouble at the time. This is my very first iPhone so I hope you cut me some slack on this one. 🙂

What do you mean by "It was not turned on."? Siri used to work perfectly for me, but I had to reset my phone to solve a battery drain problem, and now she misinterprets everything I say. (My first iPhone, too.) It looks like I need to go through the same fix you used.
