Feb 9, 2013 10:41 AM in response to MelMel13by OrangeMarlin,Facetime only works with other users who have Facetime activated, so they also have to have an iPhone or iPad (and I believe a Mac).
To activate with a phone number, you need to do that through your iPhone first. Then it should allow you to do it with your iPad.

Thanks for that. I hate to be a snob, but when I first set up iMessage, I didn't read a single blankety blank instruction. It was intuitive and a piece of cake. Though I do admit to being just slightly experienced in the Mac, iPhone and iPad.
But it's very easy to set up.
My only problem with iMessage is forgetting to shut it down on an old iPhone before selling it. That's a bug that Apple really needs to fix.
