I would like to disable mail on my MacBook Pro because I do not like it and my internet provider insists on keeping an old email address of mine which I have deleted. How can I incapacitate Mail?

I would like to disable Mail from loading.

It (and my Internet Provider AT&T) insist on keeping my old deleted sbcglobal email address. Of course, I have added my two preferred current email addresses.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Quit the program and stop using it. Find some other email application you would prefer to use. If you open Mail preferences and click on the General icon in the toolbar you can change the Default Mail Program to the email application you prefer to use.

Thank you very much. Also, because I upgraded to Mountain Lion, Mail just now wanted me to upgrade Mail in order to get the new featurres and be able to use it, so I did not and this will certainly solve my not wanting to use mail. Even Apple insists on giving me my old deleted sbcglobal email address as my ID. Some times I am able to correct the ID but not always.

Why not open Mail preferences and click on the Accounts icon. Delete the old address you don't use. Create a new Mail account using the correct email address. You don't actually have to stop using Mail to do that. And, for some period of time you used an Apple ID tied to your old email address. You can also change that.
