Ipod touch help!!!

I bought an Ipod touch from a friend of a friend. There is a passcode on it and they claim they don't remember it. Is there a way for me to disable the passcode so I can wipe the Ipod out? Or a way to completely wipe the Ipod out?

I believe it is iOS 5 but I'm not entirely sure.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
