Iphone 4S - why won't my wifi turn on?

Here's the troubleshooter:

iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim

None of what I have read will fix my 4S phone. The Apple store reset the phone on Saturday and it still won't work. This is the third 4S phone I have received and I have only had this phone since August.

Does anyone have any other suggestions what to do besides take it back to the Apple store which is far away or mail back?

if you have just performed an update and the wifi is greyed out it is most likely a hardware issue. 😟 im sorry, the best way to tell is to setup the phone as new through a restore. if it still doesnt work, it is the hardware.

We have setup the phone twice and it still is an issue. I am furious with the customer rep at Apple. I have told them what is going on. He clicked on the phone a few times, told me to go home to reset the phone as he instructed, which we did and still it is crap. lol

yea its definately hardware sorry you wasted the gas, if you call apple care and have them log the case, then give the refrence number to apple store and theyll see the notes and whats been done and if the rep just places hardware repair needed itll get replaced provided no accidental damage or liquid.

wifi grayed out for weeks!!! It came back a couple of weeks and then again it turned gray for weeks!!!! I already did alll this about resetting network settings, turn it on and off, reset Iphone , everything and it's Not working!!!! Apple needs to fix this bug once and for all!!!!

The problem is not hardware related I tried to replace antenna and tried everything but I'm almost 100% sure that it's not about hardware but it is a software problem

sounds like more and more 4s users are coming forward and reporting the wifi/Bluetooth issues with the 4s after the software update!

No doubt you have read the other threads with potential fixes, but none work for me!!

It is definitely a hardware issue. Stop trying to fix it yourself. Take the phone to an apple store and they will replace for free if under warranty if not they will charge you $199. The new OS is incompatible with some 4s phones' hardware--- Apple will not yet public ally acknowledge but the stores are replacing the phones. The one I went to didn't even question anything other than just looked at the grayed out issue on the wifi button. Good luck.

I agree, it would appear that some 4s phones are not compatible with the new OS; or rather the new OS has caused them to develop the fault

it's ok saying go down to the Apple store and they'll replace it for free, IF under warranty; lots of 4s users have had them for over 12 months and so no covered!

it is us who are frustrated as the phone was ok under ios6 and we now understand that the new OS caused the phone to fault; so Apple cause our phones to malfunction and then say, sorry out of warranty pay £150!

they should have advised 4s users not to upgrade if that is the case; and if they didn't know this, then they are obviously responsible!

If you still haven't fixed it and the apple trouble shooting does not help, than try this. First put your iPhone on airplane mode and then shut it off. Wait about 5-10 minutes and then turn it back on and check to see if the wifi button will work. If it still does not work, make sure that your ios is completely updated. In order to update, you have to be connected to a home wifi signal so if you need to update, plug your phone into your computer and open iTunes. You should see a window pop up right away that says that your phone needs an update. Once your phone is done updating, retry the steps in the beginning. worked for my iphone 4s.
