Snow Leopard isn't free and isn't available as a download. You have to buy it on a DVD at the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Last year, Snow Leopard was offered for MobileMe users as a download for free, but it expired
You can't; Snow Leopard is a paid upgrade from Leopard and must be installed from a DVD, while Mountain Lion is a paid but downloadable upgrade from Snow Leopard.
