iPhone 3 locked for 21 000 000 minutes?

i charged and turned on my mothers' old iPhone 3 for the first time in about a year today, and i was greeted by the screen pictured below. This seems very ridiculous and im wondering if there is any way to just wipe the phone and bypass this screen? I have tried putting it into recovery mode (i think).
