Q: I need more Ram in my Imac advice needed.

Hi I have a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo  iMac (late 2007 model) with only 1GB Ram.. I need more memory as its running slow and have not much free space left (yes I have done everything that needs to be done to get more space, bit still runs slow) plus I am currently on Snow Leapard and am wanting to upgrade to Lion too, so I was wondering, can I just buy another 2GB to slot in or do I need to have the same amount of GB in each slot? and where is the best place to buy more memory (UK).. Thank you.

iMac (20-inch Mid 2007), Mac OS X (10.6.8), part no MA877B/A

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

The maximum memory that a Mid 2007 iMac supports are 6 GB of memory, so install those 6 GB of memory. You can buy the memory in OWC or Crucial (Crucial is cheaper and offers the same compatibility warranty as OWC).

Ideally you should load ram equally but your Machine  and that total only allows for a 4GB + 2GB.   I have the same model as you.   She runs well with 6 GB and it is quite simple to load.

Do check out you existing programs, apps and games before diving into Lion.   It does not have the ability to work with Rosetta based programs.
