How can I fix the problem "USB device not recognized"?

I have an iPod touch 4th generation. Its running on iOs 6.1. When I go to plug it into the computer a message come up that says "USB device not recognized". I have already tried a different cord, and connecting a different Ipod touch to my computer. The cord I'm currently using is working, and iTunes does recognize the other iPod. What should I do in order to get my computer to recoginize my iPod?

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Inspect the dock connector for bend or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

- Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
