I'm unable to install Adobe Flash Player 11. It gets to 7% then download time out occurs. Any suggestions? Please? :)

Hi,

I'm trying to install Adobe Flash Player 11 to my iMac and it gets to 7% download then stops for a few seconds, then it reads 'Download timeout' but the bar has jumped to 47%. I have tried uninstalling the previous version of Flash before attempting to reinstall 11 but am having no joy. Anyone know what i can do?

Thanks

Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.

Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.

The Adobe Flash patch can be found on the company's website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent 11.5.502.149 version.

Timeouts are usually a problem with your ISP, but:

You could first try uninstalling any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

Try getting the installer from here http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html and running it locally. Just be sure to pick the right one. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'll mention that I'm 10.8.3, my firewall was still off, should that matter to anyone else trying this solution. I also dragged the installer.app to my desktop and ran it from there. Final note: I clicked the radio button so I get asked permission to run updates instead of allowing it to update automatically, lest this **** happen again.

Glad it worked for you. Going to the source and then running the installer locally is usually the most reliable way to install something. That also applies to Apple software updates. Software Update can usually get the job done but sometimes it gets hung part way through the process, and at least in Mountain Lion, won't let go until it's done (I had to force quit the App Store recently since it just kept "Waiting" for the download to begin and refused to be stopped, which also prevented shutting down the Mac). And if sometimes you're better off running a combo update rather than the incremental, you'll have to get it yourself.
