Feb 10, 2013 10:10 AM in response to Lars-Akeby mende1,Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First, open > About this Mac, and see Version. If it's 10.8.x, your computer isn't compatible with AirPlay Mirroring > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404 In this case, you have to use AirParrot to mirror the Mac onto the Apple TV > http://www.airparrot.com
If it's 10.7.x or 10.6.x, open System Information or System Profiler app, and copy "Model Identifier" here, so we can know if you can use AirPlay Mirroring if you upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion. If you don't want to upgrade, just install AirParrot

Oct 12, 2014 1:45 PM in response to mende1by gdaza28,Hello,
I am having the same thing, airplay is not showing up on tyne menu bar. The model that I have is supported by Airplay, my model is "13-inch, Late 2011" and I have Mac OS X Version 10.7.5. I guess I should update it to 10.8.x correct?
Thanks,

Oct 20, 2014 11:53 PM in response to Lars-Akeby Kwoemm,on restart reset PRam ( pushing "alt+comand+ r + p" the same time till the sound comes the second time) and than after restart disable firewall, start Itunes, then Airplay symbol should be visible, then turn firewall on again.
Of course you should be in the same network as the other Airplay devices,
I don't know if the thing with the Firewall is important, but it worked well for me with a late 2008 MacBook pro

Oct 21, 2014 12:25 AM in response to Lars-Akeby Kwoemm,Its the Firewall!!!
on Security: Firewall, Firewall-options: if there is "discoveryd" disabled for connections you should turn it on green!!!!
That's the reason the Icon is not visible if firewall is turned on... And if after switching of and on the Firewall as I described you wont be able to get a connection....
So in options turn "discoveryd" to green.
Than everything should work for fine..
