why won't my old iphone connect to wi-fi? just using as a music source but would still love to connect to wi-fi but when I input the wireless connection code it does not conect and says it cannot connect. Why?

iPhone 3GS, iOS 6.1, former ATT phone though no longer

Go to settings, wifi, click on the arrow to the right of your wifi name, then click forget this network. Then go to settings, general, reset, reset network settings, click. Then turn your router off for a minute, then back on, and after everything boots back up, try to connect to your wifi again.

If the phone is otherwise operational you don't need a SIM card in it. You DO need a SIM card to upgrade the phone or to restore it, but it does not have to be a currently active SIM card.


To attempt to fix your WiFi problem go to Settings/General/Reset - Reset Network Settings.


And, did you reboot your router as Chris suggested? This should be your first step. When in doubt, reboot, is a good general rule for anything with a computer in it.
