Some items you’ve previously purchased are not eligible for redownload via iTunes in the Cloud and thus, will not appear on your Purchased page. This content includes ringtones, audiobooks, movie rentals, items that have been modified or removed from the store since you purchased them, anything that may have been refunded, as well as certain movies.

For some movies, you will see the message "When purchased, this movie will not be available from iTunes in the Cloud” if the movie can't be downloaded again. This message appears under the Buy button on the iTunes Store product page. This is why you should always back things up.

I ran into something similar.  I have been creating my movie/ TV show database in iCloud.  Mainly purchasing through my Apple TV.  This week when I went to purchased items I noticed everything I've purchased in the past two weeks was missing.  Wrote to apple support and got the same response NatalieT1 provided.  When I checked my purchased items in my iTunes everything was there and available for re-download.  Something isn't synching with my Apple TV.  Hope this is the same problem you are running into as well.

    That can certainly be true

All studios do not allow redownloads.

After I upgraded recently it deleted my two movies that my kids loves to watch.  So how do you "redownload" a movie that u can see on your itunes purchased list on mac but can not see on apple TV?  I want to watch from my APPLE TV not stream via my MAC.

I figured it out.  After my upgrade it didn't delete my movies.  On Apple TV I found them under computer => Apple Library => Movies then I found my list and had to click on it again to reupload a movie I had already purchased via my Apple TV.  Hope that helps.
