set xls in emails to open with excel

Yesterday I migrated all my files and settings from my core duo 2.66 macbook pro to my new i7 quad 2.6.

Excel did not transfer over right, so I uninstalled and re-installed. It now works fine, but when I click an excel attachment (xls or xlsx) from an email it will not open. It gives me tha choice of what to open with, but will not open.

I now have to save the file and then fine it in finder to click.

If I click on any excel file in finder, it opens properly.

The uninstall and reinstall is not that time consuming, but that update (that you say isn't the latest), unless the download is hidden somewhere, is a two hour download after the re-install.

Then you are doing it wrong, removal of Office 2011 is an entirely manual procedure, it takes MS 11 steps to describe the process. Your installation is 4 updates old.

This document tells youHow to remove Office 2011

If you just installed over the existing copy you brought the problem along for the ride.

When I brought it over, it did not open. So I downloaded the uninstall program and ran that. Rebooted

Then installed from scratch. Rebooted

Then ran the microsoft update. Rebooted

Ran the microsoft update program and got the message that it was up to date. I just ran it again, and this time it tells me that 14.2.3 is availble, so I'm downloading it.

It isn't a resistance to remove and start over as it is to make sure that is the problem first. It works fine except with mail, and mail is not part of office.

There is no uninstaller for Office 2011, what did you use?

As I said, the current version is 14.3.0

I provided a link to the correct instructions for removing Office, I have no idea as to what you actually did so can't offer any advice as I am in the dark over here.
