The extension to my movie file is .MOV. Which codec do I need to open it with Quicktime?

My friend filmed my band and converted the tape to digital using Final Cut Pro. The resulting file extension is .MOV.

I can't open the film using Quicktime and I would like to. Which CODEC should I acquire in order to do this?
