Apple clock app alarm question

When I use my built in clock app with headphones plugged in, the alarm only sounds through the iPad speakers and not my headphones. The reason I'm concerned about this is that I go to sleep using the "stop playing" function on the timer app and play music through my external speakers which I plug into the headphone jack and then I wake up using the built in alarm function. Is there a way to make my alarm play through my headphone jack instead of the built in iPad speakers?
