Q: Is there an "AppleWorks" application that opens Appleworks documents on Mac OSX Version 10.8?

Ciao All,

Does anyone know of a "Appleworks" application I can download that will open all of my old Appleworks documents on my new OS X 10.8 computer?  How about "Word" Documents.

Thanks,

Danny Mac

    • Word Processing documents can be opened directly only in Pages (AppleWorks 6 only). 'Word' will not open them.
    • Draw Documents can be opened directly only in EazyDraw (the more expensive version from their website, not the cheaper one from the Mac App Store, and you will need v4.0 'Retro' not the most recent version) or Intaglio (though this appears not to be able to handle very complex drawings).
    • Spreadsheets can be opened directly only in Numbers.
    • Presentations can be opened directly only in Keynote.

Nothing will open AppleWorks databases or Paint documents.

If you have Appleworks 5 or earlier documents, or databases, you can only handle this by finding a way to run Appleworks, either on a suitable computer, or by running Snow Leopard under emulation.

So, if I buy Pages it WILL open my AppleWorks 6 word processing documents?  That's all I have to do?  (All I have are AW6 word processing docs; no spreadsheets, draw or anything else.)  I already transferred files to my new MBP with OSX.8.3 .

Yes. You might get the occasional slight oddity with embedded objects but text should be absolutely fine (though I have had a very few fonts which don't work well, but these are probably slightly dodgy, all the major fonts are fine).

Wait a minute.  I have Pages 2.0.2 but my trial period has long expired.  The error message tells me that I can still open documents.  However, I can't.  Will the newest version, Pages 4, be able to?

Once you're out of the trial period you can open Pages documents but not save them, and you presumably can't open AW documents. When you buy the latest version it should work fine. However you might run into problems because you've been using the trial version, and you need to remove all traces of that first. You should ask ahout this in the Pages forum - it's a well known issue.
