Can't do updates with new Apple ID

So, can anyone help me here. I have a situation where I inhereted my MacBook & my ex changed the password to our apple id that is linked to the Apps. So, I can't do updates. Is there a way to change the Apple ID connected to programs like Pages, Numbers, and iPhoto so that I can do updates?? I tried loging out of old Apple ID and logging in with new one, but it wanted to run the updates with the old Apple ID. Am I out of luck here?
