Feb 11, 2013 5:45 PM in response to MM1314by Eric Root,Try contacting LaCie if the drive is still under warranty. My experience with their "Customer Service" has been extremely frustrating, but if you keep after them, eventually you may get some help.

Feb 12, 2013 12:51 AM in response to Eric Rootby MM1314,I've narrowed it down to a power issue. Bizarrely the previously powered FW/Thunderbolt bus isn't powering the drive although the Thunderbolt adaptor is warm.
Plugging in USB to 6V connector on the Rugged mounts the drive, which, as I said verifies, mounts and executes files fine from other Macs with built-in FW.
This shouldn't happen.

Feb 12, 2013 3:58 AM in response to MM1314by woodmeister50,There is a possibility that eventhough the LaCie drive meets
all powering specs for Firewire 800, it may draw more power
than the Thunderbolt port itself can provide.
According to this, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5309 , the
Thunderbolt port is capable of providing 7 watts. So, it is possible
the LaCie is pushing it just over the edge. It may be happenning
when the drive is first connected and the draw is too much at start up
or it just simply draws a but more than the port can provide.

Feb 12, 2013 10:20 AM in response to MM1314by Eric Root,It sounds like the Thunderbolt adapter may have gone bad, especially since you typed it was warm.
