hi thanks for your response

well looked on websites offering various solutions which haven't worked so far... :-(

my old iphone 3 when plugged into my computer opened itunes automatically and synced automatically and was never a problem but the new iphone 5 just won't sync in the same way or at all...

any help much appreciated

What version of iTunes do you have (It should be 11.0.1)?

What happens when you click on the iPhone next to the iTunes store?

Is the iPhone connected directly to the MBP, or to a hub (if it's a hub it MUST be one that has its own power supply plugged into the wall)?

What happens when you click the Sync button in iTunes after clicking on the iPhone button next to the iTunes store button?

sorry just back from meeting

single clicking iPhone makes it disappear

double clicking opens up a screen where: music, film, tv programs appear as things that could be synced (button right hand bottom)

maybe ical and others should be here but are not?

on left bottom are the '+' sign which if i click says i can add other playlists

and next to it the sign that usually means advanced settings if i'm not mistaken but this doesn't interact

many thanks

maybe i'm missing something but that is exactly what I can't seem to do as it only gives me the options of: music, film, tv programs

but nowhere on offer is syncing ical and address book

under info it second left of options is says my contacts will be automatically synced by wifi but the wifi connection doesn't work so they don't sync
