Q: Lost documents.  All of them including a recovery back up disk.

Like some others here, I have suddenly lost all my documents.  The strange thing is, last fall I drowned my other Macbook and had to replace it.

I then took it in and most of my documents and pictures were recovered, put on my new computer with the symbol Mcintosh HD on my desktop.

(please excuse me if I use the wrong terminology, I say symbol... icon I suppose)

So, I've not only lost all documents on my computer but they are not ... when I click open the icon for Recovered files, there are no documents there either.   There are no documents anywhere.  And, I didn't realize I had to turn Time Machine on.  I've always had the option of reverting to previous date

on my Sony Vaio, I figured Macbook would have that also.

I think I may have changed my apple ID or password.  I did create a new password... because of another problem (not being able to log in when I

wanted to install the new Adobe Flash update.  My videos had stopped working also, I was told Adobe was blocked because of security issues and I

should download the new Adobe Flash.   Could this be it?

This is maddening.

IS THERE A WAY TO REVERT TO A PREVIOUS DATE?

Thanks for any help.

Stop using the computer and take it to a local PC/Mac repair shop and say you need data recovery done first, then to fix your issues and make sure your up to date etc.

The longer you keep using the machine, the more chance your going to lose everything pernamently.

That's all we can do for you, we can really only assist those who can assist themselves and are further along in the computer learning curve.

Well, I am sorry I didn't reply to your kind answer ds store!  I tend to get absolutely crazy mad and avoid the issue for weeks.  I never got my documents back, I was on the phone yesterday with support and now I am going to make the 2 hour trek to Albany on Thursday to see if they will help me.  I believe I turned off icloud ... which I never wanted in the first place ... and I don't remember (the support lady asked me this) if I clicked Yes or No

when asked if I wanted to save everything.   I would not have clicked No unless!  I didn't realize they meant DOCUMENTS.

Of course, now I've just read icloud "saves" documents for 180 days!  Well.  How kind of them.  Now if they would just give them back.  I've reinstated icloud but of course all my documents are not there.  Another weird thing is, ONE document is there from last December.  But none of the many others including my novels.  These were all stored in Pages.

I've tried turning Time Machine on, and it just keeps searching for an Internet connection but I never get it.

And, my photos are now messed up, some are black with that large Exclamation Point ! in the middle of the blackness.  Oh dear, I won't go on.  I guess I will keep my fingers crossed that the apple store in Albany will help me.  On reflection, when I bought this computer the young lad was in a big rush to get the sale over and get us out (my husband reflected on this just now) and it would have been appreciated if I was told a few important things like.... TURN THE DARN TIME MACHINE ON.

I certainly wish I was further along in the computer learning curve.  I have to say this icloud thing is nasty!

    cheers, Victoria
