I can't hear any sound from my macbook pro

There is no sound coming from my macbook pro. The slider in itunes is all the way up as is are the input and output sliders in preferences. What am I overlooking?

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), Other OS, OS 10.8.2

Look at the volume icon on the menu bar, at the top right of the display. How does it look?

Also, reset the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.

System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers

Make sure Mute is not enabled.

If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone

in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.

Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.

Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

Reset SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

Choose the method for:

"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".

Best.
