De-authorizing old computers
I don't have a mac computer but need to de-authorize computers that are no longer in use. Where do I find the serial number for the itunes program that I use?

You cannot deauthorize or authorize a computer without a computer using iTunes. There is no serial number for iTunes. iTunes is a free download from Apple.
If I de-authorize all my computers including the only one I use, will I lose all my music?
No. Back it up anyway.

Hi Kappy,
I use a pc, not a mac and therein seems to be the problem. I've gone through 5 or 6 computers in the last 20 years so I've authorized them and now need to deauthorize the ones that aren't in use. Thanks for trying to help. I'm still working on it 🙂
Where would I back up my music to? Thanks so much for trying o help me, I really appreciate it 🙂
An external drive, CDs or DVDs, or an online service.

If I have all the music on my IPad would tat work?
No; iOS devices such as that, as well as non-iOS iPods, will sooner or later need to be restored.

I have way too many songs to try to back them all up to cd's. Is there an online service that isn't too expensive that I could back them up to?
Deauthorizing all your computers does not in any way affect your music library.
With that said, and independently of deauthorizing, you should always have a backup of your important files including your music. What happens if your PC dies? All your music goes with it?
Anyway, you can simply move the iTunes folder to a new location on your hard drive if you want to be safe during the deathorizing process.
