Q: CF card to SD card adapter?

I'm looking to step down from a CF card to an SD card.

Wondering if anyone knows of any products like that available?

Of course there are a TON of SD card to CF card adapters, but I can not find anything that would allow me to plug a CF card into an adapter, and then plug that directly into an SD card slot (reader) on a computer.

I have a ton of CF cards, and my cameras only accept CF cards (or XQD), but not SD, and I'd like to be able to dump them while traveling... I know that newer Mac laptops have SD card readers built in, so wondering if there is an available adapter...?

I haven't been able to find a thing out there, yet with the built in SD card reader, and the prevalence of CF cards out there, I'd think there would be. I know I can use a USB card reader, but with the product I'm planning on bringing as an interface between the cards themselves and the portable HDD I'm bringing, I don't have that option....

a whole bunch of SD to CF adapters...

the opposite of what I want.

Just like when you google Mac Pro you get a bunch of MacBook Pro results, etc...

But since the computers often have SD card slots, and since a ton of pro cameras take CF cards, I'd think there would be at least ONE CF to SD adapter... some sort of a step down adapter... couldn't actually find anything anywhere though....

No. You will need a USB, or Firewire (If your Mac has Firewire), CF card reader.

That is because CF cards are like 8 Track Tapes or Tape Backup system for computers. Old Technology and used very little these days. SD cards, or Micro SD cards, have take over as the storage media for most all electronic devices.

    Good Luck & Best Wishes.

hmm, they're still putting CF cards in pro cameras. Can't be that archaic.

But ok, I guess I'm SOL on this one... but I bet somewhere, deep deep in china, they exist.

Most all cameras, Pro or otherwise, use SD cards these days and yes some have the option of using both CF and SD cards.

The only Nikon that uses CF is the D8000 and it also uses SD cards.

The only Canon that uses CF only is the 1D X. All other use both or just SD cards.

Like I said Old Tecnology and is being Phased Out.

If you can find a Mac with an ExpressCard 34 slot, you can find several options to get ExpressCard CF adapters. My older Canon DSLR uses CF cards, and I just use a USB adapter to load them to my MacBook Pro.  I would rather use a FireWire reader, but when I was looking, I couldn't find one at an acceptable price and delivery time, so I settled for USB.  If you have a new enough Mac, you can get a USB3 CF adapter, and it will work as quickly as a FireWire one.

My Late 2011 MBP has an ExpressCard socket, and I have E-SATA and SD card adapters for that slot.  I haven't spent the money for a CF adapter because my USB one is sufficient for my needs (but I am no professional photographer, although technically I used to be).

The fact is your "old technology" CF is orders of magnitude faster than SD, so no, it not getting phased out.  Canon's professional DSLR, the 5D Mark III has both CF and SD, but if you wish to do something like shoot RAW in burst mode (say you are a serious sports, news or wildlife photographer) you have to use CF, otherwise the card can't keep up and will prevent you from shooting while it is saving.

I am looking for one too, but can't find anything like it.  I want to buy the Wester Digital Passport Wireless drive that has a built in SD card reader, but sometimes we use Canons with CF cards.  So I'd would like a CF reader that steps down to a SD card for the reader on the drive.

Exactly why I am here today. I have a Wester Digital Passport Wireless and will be travelling that has a built in SD card reader,. BlackMagic Ursa mini uses CF card. I understand their choice, there is no SD card fast enough to record Apple ProRes 444 XQ - 312.5 MB/s...

Anyone had found CF reader that steps down to a SD card yet?
