Factory unlocked iPhone 3GS detects Airtel signal only and that too with 3G enabled?

Hi iPhone Experts,

I just got my iPhone unlocked (factory) and I received the successfully unlocked message also when I restored it to iOS 6.1 in iTunes.

I am using the iPhone 3GS in India.

Now,

it works only with AIRTEL Carrier and that too 3G enabled.

For all other carriers,

a. It detects the phone number (visible in iTunes)

b. it detects the carrier

but now signal. It goes continuously in "Searching..." or "No Service".

Off and ON with Flight mode didnt help with other carriers.

This is because your phone was hacked to provide unlocking. It has now re locked to the original provider.

No. Stedman..

Original provider is AT&T USA and now I am trying to use it in India. Out of all thr providers, it only detects AIRTEL India and that too only with 3G enabled.

So, I don't think it is the problem with relocking.

How can I check if it is re-locked or not? I agree that it was hacked to provide unlocking but how can get away from this problem now??

I don't know I'd AT&T authorised this or not.

I bought it from eBay.in and I got the success message in iTunes.

I think it is authorised, Isn't it?.

Hi Templeton Peck,

I checked with AT&T (i.e., eBay vendor) and they confirmed that my iPhone in unlocked and Clean in Apple's databases.

How do I proceed now?

Hi Pavan,

Any luck with finding a solution for your problem? I have a similar problem. My iPhone 3gs with airtel recognizes signal....then goes Searching...then No Service..then picks up signal again. It holds the signal for a minute or so and then repeats the same.

Are you nuts? NO...you didn't check with AT&T as ATT is not an eBay vendor. AT&T is the second larget wireless provider in the US with 90 million subscribers. Nobody you bought it from on eBay can verify if it's unlocked or not?

AT&T does not sell iPhones via ebay. You got ripped off. You bought a hacked phone.

File a claim with ebay and get your money back if you can, then buy a phone in India from a legitimate source.

OK. That clarifies things.

You got ripped off. ONLY AT&T can authorize unlocking it. There are no ebay vendors who can legally do that.

Again..YOUR PHONE WAS HACKED!!!! It was NOT legally unlocked. What part of what you've already been told do you not understand??? Accept that fact and move on. Lesson learned
