Transfering library to new computer

I followed all the steps to use my ipod to transfer my library to my new windows8 laptop. Saved the music file to my ipod, sent the file to c:username/mymusic/itunes/itunesmedia. I can see the songs in the folder, but when i open itunes, none of the songs are there. What could be wrong?
