over the past few days, my Macbook Pro Retina has been acting up.  It doesn't wake up from sleep although it sounds like its on (fan is running).  I tried a SMC reset but that was to no success.  Help!!! this is the error message that comes up when I am able to restart (or start) the CPU:

You are having a kernel panic.  Disconnect all peripherals from your computer and try the suggestions mentioned in the articles  Kernel Panics? Don't panic too!

"You need to restart your computer" (kernel panic) message appears (Mac OS X v10.5, 10.6)

Mac OS X 10.7 Help: If “You need to restart your computer” appears

Which os version are you using?

Can you copy and paste the text that you have in Word to a message here - it's difficult to tell what the problem is without seeing the entire panic report.

It's likely a hardware problem - can't really be more specific. If you want to eliminate the OS as a potential problem, you can boot into your Recovery partition, holding down the Command and R keys whilst booting, and simply elect to reinstall the system software. This won't hurt any of your data, apps, etc., and should leave all data intact.

If, after you perform a fresh install of OS X, the problem persists, take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostics on the hardware.

I'm betting that the fresh install won't solve the problem, but you never know...
