How to change where backups for I-phone5 are stored?

I need to backup my Iphone 5 but my computer says I do not have enough free space. I have 2.38gb on the "C" dirve, 319gb on "D" drive. How do I tell Itunes to use the "D" drive to store my backups?

The first backup can take multiple hours, depending on your backup size, as upload speeds are typically only 1.5-2.5 Mbps. iCloud backups generally work well but I don't recommend them as your only backup solution. They can at times be unreliable; they back up far less of your information; and restoring is much slower. But it's better than nothing. I personally do both.

The backups to iCloud contain the exact same info as those to iTunes except that apps and media are not synced, as this is unnecessary. They will be automatically re-downloaded directly from the iTunes store when restoring the backup from iCloud (this can take some time, but backing up doesn't.)

The time needed for the first backup is not nearly as long as you stated unless there are massive amouts of photos and videos in the Camera Roll album. If so, it's best to import them to an app on your computer first, delete them fromt the cameral roll, and sync them back later.

iCloud backups contain:

  • Photos and videos in the Camera Roll
  • Device settings (for example: Phone Favorites, Wallpaper, and Mail, Contacts, Calendar accounts)
  • App data
  • Home screen and app organization
  • Messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS)
  • Ringtones
  • Visual Voicemails

Compare that with what is contained in the iTunes backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946.
