Disappearing notes?

I've hit this issue that will make Notes unusable. I spent 3 hours in a meeting, taking notes using Notes. At the end of the meeting, I closed out of Notes. Then 2 hours I came back to my machine, opened up Notes, and the notes I had taken were gone. The notes are on a gmail account, and I suspect they were not completely synced when I quit. But is there no way/place the local cache gets saved, so notes don't get lost?
