i had a update come on my ipad and updated it now im told i have lost every thing all my photoes and every thing i have on there is there some way i can get my photos back

please help me i had a app sent to me saying i had run out of space and to get some so i clicked on this and my ipad started to load when i next looked at it i have connect usb to itunes

then i told i have lost all my photoes and other thing these photos are of my family and are so inportent to me is ther any way to get them please help i am so disapointed that i was told to do this by apple and now this has happend
